Who wants Officer Yerima dead? Police dismiss alleged assassination attempt

Widespread reports in the Media of an alleged assassination attempt on the life of Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima has been dismissed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.

The Command described the reports as entirely false and capable of causing unnecessary public panic.

A statement issued by Josephine Adeh, Spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, said there was no record or report of any attack on the Naval Officer anywhere in Abuja.

The Police position became necessary after reports in some online publications suggested that Yerima who had a recent altercation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had escaped an assassination attempt.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory. The public is advised to disregard this false information and desist from spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary panic,” says the statement.

The FCT Police Command added that against the backdrop of increase in misinformation, maintaining peace and public order need cooperation from members of the public.
